Phineas amiibo card no. 304 – Animal Crossing Series 4
The Phineas amiibo card is number 304 of Animal Crossing card series 4. Phineas (Hélium in French, パロンチーノ on the Japanese card) is a sea lion with round glasses and bushy eyebrows, whom players know in two guises: the balloon seller who handed out prizes in the town square in Let’s Go to the City, then the scout leader in New Leaf who came to hand over badges rewarding the player’s achievements. His French name comes from the gas that inflates his balloons – the Japanese name, meanwhile, borrows the Italian palloncino.
A Japanese card that works on a French Switch
Amiibo are not region-locked: this card can be scanned on any Nintendo Switch, including a French console. Only the name printed on the front is in Japanese. In the game, the character appears under the French name, Hélium, and all the dialogue stays in the language of your console. As series 4 has not been reprinted in Europe, the Japanese version is often the only reasonable way to complete the collection.
What card no. 304 does
Phineas is an SP (special character) card: unlike villagers, he cannot move onto your island. In Animal Crossing: New Horizons, scan him in Photopia to invite him to a photo shoot and unlock his poster in Nook Shopping; you can also have him visit The Roost café. In the Happy Home Paradise expansion, he becomes a client whose holiday home you design. The card remains compatible with New Leaf – Welcome amiibo, where he plays his role as badge giver.
